Privacy Policy
This is a preparation draft. Before public release, we will finalize retention and deletion procedures and how required business information is provided, and update this document.
Operator and audience
Banana Teacher is an English-learning app for children provided by craft think. A parent or guardian should review how data is handled and manage the child’s profile. An English nickname can be used instead of a real name. Children do not need their own email address.
Information we process and why
- Authentication: identifiers for anonymous use and identifiers and email addresses for optional sign-in. These are used to verify identity and manage family sharing.
- Profiles: name, age, avatar, optional cropped photo and preferences. Age helps us choose topics that suit the child’s knowledge; it does not determine English ability by itself.
- Learning records: questions, answer text, conversations, evaluations, hints, lesson time, levels, Banana XP, streaks and scheduled reviews. These support game progress, history, recommendations and review.
- Audio: microphone input is processed for speech recognition. Necessary question context and answers are also used for evaluation and teacher replies.
- Purchases: Apple transaction identifiers, products, purchase dates, expiry and refund status, and lesson usage. These are used to verify and restore purchases and manage allowances. The app does not collect credit card numbers.
- Diagnostics: app version, processing identifiers, traffic volume, duration, results and errors. These help investigate faults and assess quality and costs.
External services
Supabase provides authentication and storage for profiles, learning information and optional photos. OpenAI provides speech recognition, answer interpretation, explanations and teacher audio. Microphone audio, answer text, necessary question and conversation content, and the name used to address your child are sent to OpenAI for these tasks. If you choose Apple or Google sign-in, the respective authentication service is also used.
As a rule, children’s audio files are not permanently stored on the app’s servers. Retention by external providers depends on the API, contract and provider’s terms. This does not guarantee that external providers never retain data.
Agreement before AI use
Before AI features are used, the app identifies OpenAI as the recipient, describes the data and purposes, and asks a parent or guardian to agree. AI features cannot be used without agreement. Agreement is checked separately for each account and device and is requested again after important changes to the disclosure.
OpenAI API inputs and outputs are not used for model training by default. Retention for abuse monitoring and other purposes depends on the API, contract and configuration. See OpenAI’s data controls documentation for details.
Family sharing
Invited family members can view and manage shared children’s profiles and learning information. Share invitations only with the intended recipient. The family owner can end sharing, and members can leave.
Information on your device
Sign-in information is held using operating-system protections. Preferences, session recovery information, unsent operations and the last confirmed home summary are also stored locally. A local record does not mean that server saving has completed.
Retention and deletion
Learning information is retained to support continued learning. Parents can delete a profile and related records, or their account, in settings. You can also contact us about deletion, correction or access requests. We may ask for identity verification to protect the information.
Diagnostic records older than 90 days are deleted periodically and may be deleted earlier due to operational limits. This cleanup does not delete learning or purchase records. Retention and deletion procedures for purchase records and backups will be finalized and documented before public release.
Security and changes
We use authentication, access controls, encrypted transport and device protections to manage information. Important changes, including changes to purposes or external recipients, will be announced in the app or on these pages.
